2016 has received a lot of flak for being a generally crappy year. On paper though, my 2016 has been a pretty good year. We sold our house after a stressful and drawn out process - hoorah! We settled into a new area in a house we love closer to family and friends. I've had some great days and evenings exploring places, discovering new restaurants, and doing fun activities. I came to the realisation that I wanted to freelance so I left my job and I've had a successful first few months as a freelancer. I've strengthened existing friendships and...

On the last day of the year for the past few years now I've blogged a review of my achievements during the year. 2015 however has been quite a different year and I want to mark it in a different way. There have been some great times this year, but unfortunately there have been some not so great times, and through the good and bad I have learnt some key lessons that span across all areas of my life. I wanted to document these, both for myself to aid my reflection, and for others in case these may also apply...

I've stuck with my 2014 resolution of living for the moment, and have changed a number of things this year due to focusing on the present rather than the future. I'm still a reflector though, so the end of year blog post is one thing I have decided to continue. This is my seventh year of doing these annual reviews now - you can see previous ones for 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. I haven't blogged much in 2014. I've been spending more of my free time focusing on other areas of my life and have learnt a lot...

Another year has flown past and it's time for my annual review - you can see previous ones for 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. 2013 has been a funny old year; nothing particularly terrible has happened, but I haven't felt as positive as I usually do and this has been reflected by a decrease in blogging and use of social media. It's not all bad though, as another reason for this decrease is a continuation of what I mentioned last year as a major lesson - trying to achieve a more sustainable work-life balance. This year I've been doing a...

It's that time of year again - time to reflect on the activities of the previous 12 months (see 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 posts). Here are some of my highlights from 2012: [caption id="attachment_2105" align="aligncenter" width="300"] 2012 highlights in pictures[/caption] Top: My Emerging Leaders project group with ALA NMRT President (Janel Kinlaw, far left) and Past President (Linda Crook, far right) Bottom left: CILIP Chartership certificate Bottom centre: CILIP West Midlands Chair medal Bottom right: Productivity and time management article Professionally, one of the main things this year has been CILIP Chartership. I started the process early in the year, submitted my portfolio in August,...

I'm a creature of habit, so I'm continuing the tradition of posting an end of year blog post (see 2008, 2009, and 2010). It's actually really useful for me to look back and see what I did each year. So, what has 2011 involved? 2011 mosaic 1. My ALA 2011 badge complete with ribbons!, 2. Louisiana State University, 3. Osney Building at University of Oxford, 4. CILIP signage

[picappgallerysingle id="302609"]Continuing on the tradition from 2008 and 2009, it's time for my end of year blog post. As a naturally reflective person, I find it very useful to reflect back on my achievements of the year and consider what to focus on next. It's also useful to look at my previous end of year posts and look back at what I've done in the last few years. So what did 2010 bring? Well, I certainly satisfied that itch I mentioned this time last year!

[picappgallerysingle id="246905"]I thought I'd continue the tradition I started last year and end 2009 by posting a reflective blog post about the year. It's been a year full of ups and downs, mainly ups thankfully - although at times it's been difficult to focus on the positives, I've learnt a lot this year about myself. This time last year I had recently started my first professional librarian job, and one year in I'm really enjoying it - it was definitely worth all the hard work completing my Diploma. I've had the opportunity to work on projects such as improving the way we...

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="500" caption="New Year Celebrations in London (from i is Ashby on Flickr)"][/caption] Firstly, I hope any readers who celebrate have had a wonderful Christmas season and enjoyed the break - I certainly have. It's given me chance to see family, spend time at home relaxing with my boyfriend and our kittens, catch up on sleep, do some cross-stitching (for next year's Christmas cards!) and learn a bit of Photoshop. As it's the last day of the year I thought I'd take the opportunity to reflect back on the year and look forward to 2009. 2008 has been quite a big...
